A Playlist for Frolicking

Updated: Jun 16, 2021

To anyone who loves a good romp in the woods or prances in the meadows: I made this playlist for you. Filled with lighthearted songs that speak to my own youthful wild side, the collection is meant to accompany anyone as they run, skip, dance, and wander. Breathe in the fresh air and let the warm breeze lead the way as you frolic as free as a deer. Have fun!

Songs

Have You Ever by Brandi Carlile

A simple and uplifting ballad about finding joy alone in nature, this song has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. It's perfect for listening to in a forest and really captures the feeling one can only find among the stars and trees.

Touch the Sky by Julie Fowlis

This is an energetic song filled with upbeat strings and beautiful vocals. It is absolutely perfect for running and twirling with everything in you. The Celtic influence and instruments make it even more special.

Bird Song by The Wailin’ Jennys

A lovely melody with a focus on the band’s harmonizing voices, this song is an ode to free spirits and lovers of nature. The lyrics are vivid and poetic, and the singing creates an ethereal mood.

Brother, Sister by Beta Radio

The sweeping, emotive use of string instruments in this song makes it perfect for frolicking. The melody is strong and moves me to get up and go somewhere.

Riptide by Vance Joy

A well-known and beloved number, this tune is simple enough for the outdoors and bright enough to inspire a good careen along the river. The lighthearted strumming and vocals bring the perfect feeling of adventure.

Oo-De-Lally by Roger Miller

This is a nostalgic and cheerful tune from decades past. The opening song from Disney’s Robin Hood is both unique and brief, yet it is so fun to listen to as you run down an overgrown path.

Runaway by AURORA

The quintessential frolicking song as of late, this crooning, beautiful melody is an irreplaceable part of my list. The atmospheric instrumentals and poignant lyrics were practically made for a romp under the shining sun or glimmering stars.

Running with the Wolves by AURORA

Another beautiful song by the Norwegian singer/songwriter, this tune paints a captivating picture that fits our task wonderfully. It captures a feeling of endless adventure and freedom.

Of All the Dreams by The Wild Reeds

One of my personal favorite songs for frolicking, this ballad has wonderful poem-like lyrics that I love to read as much as sing. The melody is bright, and the vocals are sweet and cheerful. It’s a charming song with themes of nature and playful, constant love.
