DIY Flower Crown Tutorial

The Flower Crown: An iconic accessory that practically sings out the wearer's love of spring, sunshine, nature, gardens, simplicity, and everything in between. I believe everyone who wants to should be able to make and wear a flower crown at least once in their lifetime. I have done it several times, and the joy that comes from the process never wears off. And it’s such an aesthetically pleasing project, too!

What you’ll need:

  • a bouquet of your favorite flowers (preferably not too bulky or heavy) and some greenery

  • metal floral wire

  • floral tape (it’s green and stretchy)

  • wire cutters

  • scissors

  • measuring tape

  • hot glue or duct tape

Let’s get started!

1. First, you’ll want to measure the circumference of your head. I suggest pulling the measuring tape around from your forehead (just above your eyebrows) straight to the back of your head. Now, cut the wire accordingly! Form it into a circle and glue or tape the ends together. You could use hot glue or duct tape for this step.

2. Next, start snipping flowers. Cut individual stems about three inches long. You’ll want a good pile of blooms to fill your crown.

3. Now, you can begin attaching the stems to the wire! Decide which direction you want the flowers facing. They could all flow in one direction or converge at the front of the crown. Get your floral tape ready, and select the first flower. Pinch the stem close to the wire, and, with your other hand, start wrapping the piece of tape tightly around both, fastening the flower to the wire.

4. Repeat the last step until you have filled your crown! Use long pieces of tape and really overlap the stems so there aren’t many gaps.

5. Now you can attach pieces of greenery to fill out the shape of the crown. You can wrap the tape around stems and wire to fasten the leaves as best you can.

6. Snip away any unwanted leaves or long stems and voila! You’re done! Now you can place your creation atop your lovely head and enjoy being Queen of Gardens.
