October 2, 2020-

I love autumn- it’s probably my favorite season after spring. Autumn is harvest time, and with that brings delicious root veggies and apples from our garden, cosy rainy days filled with baking and reading by the fire- it’s truly the coziest and most wholesome time of year.

Except where I live. Now we do get autumn, and this year we’ve actually had a nice one. But we get our first frost around the end of September, so the beautiful autumn leaves in the above image are usually dust by the end of the first week in October. And this is because of the cheap trees placed all over our area that were planted for the sake of resale value- nice going, guys. I love my trees, don’t get me wrong, but I just wish ours wasn’t the tree whose leaves grow last and fall off first.

That being said, the short span of autumnal foliage does make me appreciate this time of year a lot more. We usually get snow by late October- early November (northern BC), so this season is even more fleeting than our springs. When it’s here I truly cherish it, which was what motivated me to snap the above image of our tree a week ago which today now has almost no leaves left. It’s a small beauty, but it’s impactful, and I look forward to it every single year.
